Four Tasty Toast Hacks

Toast isn’t JUST toast anymore or your average breakfast side. There is a million different ways you can top your toast and have it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Don’t limit yourself to the typical butter or jam. Toast can easily become the staple of your everyday meals and help you get in some of your daily grains and fiber.

I could go on and on about the (million) different ways you can top your toast but, I’ll stick to four different ways for now. So, switch up your breakfast, lunch, or dinner game with these four tasty ways to have your toast. (You can also easily make any of these toast ideas in your dining halls on campus!)

  1. The Classic Avocado and Egg Toast

It’s as easy as it sounds. Toast your bread and top it with avocado (you can use fresh avocado or a pre-made quacamole spread) and an egg. You can have the egg however you please- scrambled, over easy, or hard. My favorite is over easy. The runny yellow egg yolk is kinda like a sauce that goes perfectly with the avocado. If you’re in one of the dining halls on campus go to the omelet station and ask for them to cook an egg however you like! Top the egg on your toast with avocado and add a dash of salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, or hot sauce.

  1. Caprese- with a twist

First toast your bread. If you’re in one of  dining halls on campus grab some pesto from the pasta station, but if you’re home you can easily buy pesto from a grocery store in one of the cold sections or make it yourself. Here is an easy single serving homemade pesto recipe if you decide to make your own.

Spread the pesto on the toast in a good even layer,  then top it off with feta or mozzarella, cherry tomatoes (dice your cherry tomatoes in half), and drizzle with a lil itty bit of balsamic vinegar and olive oil on top. If you’re in one of the dining halls you can find most these ingredients at the salad bar station.

  1. Sweet and Cream Cheezy

Smear your toast with a layer of cream cheese, place slices of strawberries or blueberries on top, sprinkle almonds or whatever nut from the salad bar, and drizzle some honey on the top.

  1. Meat your new Fav Toast

Spread cream cheese on your toast, then go to the sandwich line and ask for salami and pesto (if you’re home you can use store bought pesto or homemade pesto-see recipe above) to place on top of the cream cheese. Optional- you can add black olives as well!
